Comedian Kathy Griffin showed her support for former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick Sunday, a week after President Trump lashed out at NFL players who protest police brutality by refusing to stand during the national anthem.
“I’m proud of you @Kaepernick7,” Griffin tweeted. “Your activism has come at a price but you haven’t backed down … not even once. Thank you for leading the way.”

Kaepernick was subject to much criticism when, as a San Francisco 49er, he knelt during “The Star-Spangled Banner” for much of the 2016-2017 season.
Griffin herself has been a figure of controversy. She faced a U.S. Secret Service investigation after posing in a photograph with a fake severed, bloodied President Trump head in May.
