Ivanka Trump has her own West Wing office and is in the process of obtaining a security clearance, though she won’t have an official position within the government.
The first daughter’s role, her attorney Jamie Gorelick told Politico, is to serve as the president’s “eyes and ears.” She will also be advising her father on a variety of issues, including those related to women’s empowerment.
“I will continue to offer my father my candid advice and counsel, as I have for my entire life,” Trump said in a statement. “While there is no modern precedent for an adult child of the president, I will voluntarily follow all of the ethics rules placed on government employees.”
A spokeswoman for Trump said her role was approved by the White House counsel’s office. She added that conflict of interest issues were resolved with the Office of Government Ethics.
With her office, Trump is expected to get government-issued communications devices and a security clearance to access classified information.
Trump is prohibiting her eponymous brand from using her image or likeness in any new advertising or marketing. She handed over daily operations of her fashion brand before her father’s inauguration.
Trump will still have the power to kill any of her brand’s new deals if they raise ethical concerns, the Associated Press reported.
Her attorney said Trump will donate the proceeds to charity from her upcoming book, “Women Who Work.”
Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner, also works in the White House as a senior adviser to the president.
