Freighter grounded in Lake St. Clair refloated

DETROIT (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says a freighter hauling 23,000 tons of wheat has been refloated after running aground in a shipping channel of Lake St. Clair and is expected to head to Montreal.

Lt. Commander Scott Smith says the 656-foot Federal Rideau is flagged in Hong Kong and was refloated early Tuesday. It’s now anchored in the Detroit River.

The Coast Guard says divers will conduct a damage assessment and any needed repairs will take place. It says there were no injuries or pollution.

The Coast Guard says it received notice early Sunday of the grounding. The shipping channel is open to traffic.
