Batterson denied bail

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A former Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority board member will remain in jail until his sentencing.

A judge denied bail to Richard “Scott” Batterson on Tuesday. He’s spent the past two weeks incarcerated after being convicted of two bribery related charges.

Batterson’s sentencing is set for Oct. 17. He faces up to 30 years in prison.

Gov. Rick Scott signed an order removing Batterson from office last month after an Orange County jury found the 38-year-old guilty of two second-degree felony charges. He’s also facing fines on each of the counts of bribery and solicitation for receiving unlawful compensation.
