Mark Meadows jokes Chick-fil-A stock will skyrocket under Green New Deal

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., poked fun at New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday.

“With this ‘Green New Deal,’ they are trying to get rid of all the cows,” Meadows quipped. “But I’ve got good news, Chick-fil-A stock will go way up because we’re going to be eating more chicken.”

The joke referenced a “frequently asked questions” page posted on Ocasio-Cortez’s website that suggested the Green New Deal, a resolution she introduced this month with Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., would require the elimination of airplane travel and cows. The page was later retracted by the firebrand liberal.

Meadows, the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, made the comments alongside Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, during a segment at the event organized by the American Conservative Union called “Marketing Marxism: There’s Nothing New About the Green New Deal.” The duo, however, spent more time talking about American greatness.

“They may call you deplorable, but most people will call you adorable patriots, all right? Just remember that,” Meadows told the crowd.

The conference, held in National Harbor, Md., near Washington, D.C., and is scheduled to continue until Mar. 2. President Trump will round out the event with a keynote address on Saturday.
