Falls Church sees second main break in 2 months

An early morning water main break complicated rush-hour traffic on Route 7 early Wednesday morning in Falls Church and shut off water service to more than two dozen places, according to a city spokeswoman.

The break, while apparently minor, comes two months after a more severe accident thatleft thousands without water and bottlenecked traffic on Route 123 in McLean, where the city supplies water.

Crews on Thursday were able to repair the 6-inch main, and restored water by 11:30 a.m., said Falls Church spokeswoman Nicole Gobbo. Morning rush hour was not significantly affected, Gobbo said, but crews did reroute the flow of traffic while lanes were shut down on the highway.

The break occurred around 3 a.m. near Patrick Henry Drive, and was discovered by a passing motorist, she said.

Gobbo said it’s unknown why the accident took place.
