Carnival to move up start of cruises

Carnival Cruise Lines will begin year-round cruises in April, rather than September as it announced earlier this year, and add 19 departures to its Baltimore schedule in 2009.

Year-round service will begin on April 27, the company said Monday, and will bring to 79 the number of cruises leaving Baltimore next year.

“Based on current market conditions, continued economic uncertainty and high air costs to Europe, we are shifting our focus to an even greater extent toward our core, close-to-home cruise options,” Gerry Cahill, Carnival president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. – Aaron Cahall
