AIDS Quilt coming to D.C.

The AIDS Memorial Quilt is on its way to the National Mall. The quilt, just shy of 1.3 million square feet, contains the names of more than 94,000 AIDS victims. It was last displayed in the District in 1996, and is returning to mark next month’s International AIDS Conference in D.C. The quilt is now too large to display all at once, so portions will be presented at more than 40 locations around the city. Part of the quilt will be on display at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival beginning June 27. – Jacob Demmitt
