A District of Columbia firefighter responding to a reported heart attack in Northeast was shot in the arm Monday night, District police said.
The firefighter is expected to recover from the wound he received after firefighters broke down the door to a home on the 4800 block of East Capitol Street NE and was shot by a man inside, police said.
Fire and EMS crews knocked on the door, but when no one answered, they forced the door open.
After a man emerged from a room and opened fire, the crews retreated and called police. At that point, the man barricaded himself inside the apartment, police said. Police were eventually able to talk him into surrendering.
The wounded firefighter was taken to an area hospital.
