Hello, voto
Ringtones probably aren’t what most people think of when they think about technology’s role in the 2008 election.
But launched recently was www.ringtones08.com, a Web site that “lets anyone post and share ringtones about the 2008 U.S. election.” Among the 11 submissions so far: a reggae tune that promises “Ron Paul is here”; a sound bite of President Bush’s infamous “Brownie, you’re doing a heckuva job” line mashed up with Arlo Guthrie’s “City of New Orleans,” a remix of George Allen’s even more infamous “Macaca” line, and a surf tune over which John McCain talks about marching to his own drummer.
The site’s home page implores: “Turn these sound bytes gone wrong (or right!) into ringtones and let ’em rip at malls, campuses, bus stops — wherever cell phones ring.”
And you thought the “Hello Moto” ringtone was annoying.
