Man shoots grandfather, turns gun on self, police say
A 23-year-old man is in critical condition after Prince George’s County police say he shot and killed his 78-year-old grandfather and then turned the gun on himself. The two men were found by officers Thursday morning after police received a call to check on the welfare of James Laurence Brown and his grandson, authorities said. The grandson had not been charged.
Body found in Fairfax County lake identified
Fairfax County police say the body of a man found in Lake Barcroft has been identified as 24-year-old Sandoval Soto of Falls Church. Soto’s body was found Nov. 29. Police said they do not suspect foul play in his death, which a preliminary investigation determined to be drowning.
Robber sentenced for knocking off bank, shooting employee
One of three men who robbed a Bank of America in Clarksville, shot an employee and then led authorities on wild chase into Montgomery County was sentenced to 21 years in prison. Anirudh Sukhu and two other men stole $23,471 from the bank while wielding a sawed-off shotgun, authorities said. Before leaving, he shot a bank employee in the hand. When he, Sharman Said and Omar Burnett ditched their pick-up truck in Montgomery County, they found themselves in a gun battle with police. Burnett was shot and killed and Sukhu and Said eventually surrendered. Said is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 18.
22 in custody for buying booze for teens
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office says it has charged 22 people with buying alcohol for teenagers. Deputies said they launched the operation after learning of two 19-year-old girls who were asking people to buy alcohol for them in Sterling. Some of those arrested were also charged with illegally carrying a firearm, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.
