If Donald Trump hoped the Trump University fiasco would fade from headlines, a New York court shattered his optimism.
On Tuesday, a New York appeals court ruled that the lawsuit against Trump University for fraud could continue, according to the New York Daily News.
The Trump campaign denied any wrongdoing when Marco Rubio raised attention to the failed seminar venture during the GOP debate last week. More negative information emerged afterward, as Trump tried to censor any criticism from dissatisfied students, then was corrected by Politifact on the low grade Trump University had from the Better Business Bureau.
The New York Attorney General’s office is now “authorized to bring a cause of action for fraud” against Trump University, despite Trump’s lawyers claiming that the statute of limitations on the alleged fraud has expired.
The lawsuit cites “deceptive and unlawful practices” by the “university” and alleges that they “repeatedly deceived students.”
Some claims were dismissed due to an applicable three-year statute of limitations rule, but the main allegations remain.
Trump claims that the case is “a small deal,” but it will hang around longer as the race for the Republican nomination continues.
