The NFL unemployment line is growing just three weeks into the regular season as San Francisco offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye and Buffalo’s former starting quarterback Trent Edwards both received their pink slips on Monday.
And after both team’s have started winless, someone had to shoulder some of the blame.
The 49ers pointed to Raye, who became the latest on a long list of coaches to fail to make Alex Smith look like the quarterback San Francisco selected with the No. 1 pick in 2005.
Before cutting Edwards, the Bills benched their quarterback after leading the offense to just 17 points in the first two games for a team that has potential to be historically bad this season.
It’s only Week 3, but Raye and Edwards may be lucky that they don’t have to endure an entire season with these struggling franchises.
With more teams sure to fail to meet unfounded high expectations, who’ll be next to join Raye and Edwards in the unemployment line?
