Teen dies of gunshot wound

An 18-year-old who was shot in Southeast D.C. on Friday died midday Sunday from his injuries, according to D.C. police. The shooting occurred about 10:37 p.m. on the 1100 block of Howard Road SE, near the Anacostia Metro station, injuring Thomas Short of Elmira Street, SW. No arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon, police said.

Bystander shot in shopping center spat

A Sunday afternoon shooting at a Montgomery County shopping center left two people, including a bystander, recovering from gunshot wounds, according to county police. Montgomery County police were called to the Briggs Chaney Shopping Plaza in Silver Spring about 1:15 p.m., said police spokeswoman Lucille Baur. Two men had apparently been arguing in front of the H&R Block and Chuck E. Cheese when one of the men starting shooting, she said. The shots hit the other man but also the leg of a woman, who Baur said was an innocent bystander. Both were expected to recover. The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, with a medium build, 5’7” to 5’9” tall, and bald. He was wearing a white shirt and black shorts and was last seen running behind the Chuck E.
