An illegal immigrant from El Salvador is accused of stealing copper from Ashburn homes under construction, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office said someone called authorities after they saw Oscar S. Ramos-Barrers entering construction sites on the 23200 block of Fallen Hills Drive and placing items in a vehicle.
Deputies found Ramos-Barrers in one of the homes. He first fled on foot, then in a Toyoto Scion, the sheriff’s office said. The car was stopped a short time later and he was arrested. Authorities said copper pipes and wires were found in the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office said Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on him.
Ramos-Barrers is charged with burglary, destruction of property, grand larceny and related offenses.
