Pennsylvania reporter tries to jumpstart race war
David Singleton, a reporter for the Scranton Times-Tribune, reported on Tuesday that a member of the audience attending a Sarah Palin rally in Scranton shouted “Kill him!” when Republican congressional candidate Chris Hackett mentioned Barack Obama’s name.
Singleton’s story was duly picked up by major media outlets ABC, AP, and MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” – not long after the Daily Kos and other left-wing bloggers started spreading an ugly rumor that Palin and John McCain were inciting violence among their supporters.
Turns out the curiously timed Singleton story just wasn’t true.
The agent in charge of the Secret Service office in Scranton said Thursday that they could not find one other person to corroborate Singleton’s account after interviewing Secret Service agents – who would be listening intently for any threatening remarks from the crowd – and more than 20 other non-security agents who also attended the rally. Not one of them heard it.
Singleton later said he could not even describe the homicidal maniac because he never saw him – he just heard his voice.
I wonder how many other voices he hears.
