The D.C. Council is preparing to take Sulaimon Brown to court if he doesn’t appear at a council hearing Friday morning.
Ward 3 Councilwoman Mary Cheh sent Brown a subpoena via certified mail to appear at the hearing, but Brown told The Washington Examiner on Friday that he has not received the subpoena. Cheh’s committee wants to question Brown in its fourth hearing on hiring practices by the Vince Gray administration. Brown, a former mayoral candidate has accused Gray of promising him a job if he kept up his campaign trail attacks on then-Mayor Adrian Fenty. In late January, the Gray administration hired Brown into a job with a $110,000 annual salary.
If Brown doesn’t show on Friday, Cheh’s committee has prepared an “Enforcement of Subpoenas Resolution” that will require the council’s general counsel to file a petition with the D.C. Superior Court to “compel” Brown to attend a future council hearing. The resolution would go into effect immediately.
