Jeb Bush said while he believes President Trump has made some good decisions since taking office, the former Florida governor thinks Trump’s statements on Twitter are a huge distraction.
“He hasn’t shifted to being president in the way that people are used to, and I think that’s the problem,” Bush said in an interview with CBS Miami, taped before the House pulled a bill to repeal Obamacare.
Trump’s former rival for the Republican nomination was clear that some of Trump’s statements, such as claiming President Barack Obama wiretapped him, are not productive.
“He should stop saying things that aren’t true,” Bush said.
When asked if Trump’s recent statements on Obama diminish the office of the president, Bush replied, “A little bit.”
Bush said he would be watching Trump’s deeds not his words in the future.
Trump was highly critical of Bush throughout the campaign. Bush dropped out after losing the South Carolina primary in February 2016 and remained opposed to Trump’s nomination.
