Knife attack leads police to suspected gang members

Fairfax County police say they’ve arrested eight suspected teenage gang members on assault charges for allegedly attacking a 16-year-old with a knife and bat.

The attack happened Monday evening on the 4100 block of Medford Drive in Annandale, police said. The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.

A parole officer spotted the suspected attackers nearby and took them into custody, police said. Five of them are 15, one is 16 and two are 17. All of them are boys.

No jail time for Justice Department lawyer in Abramoff scandal

Former U.S. Justice Department lawyer Robert Coughlin was sentenced to a month at a halfway house and three years probation for his role in disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff’s influence peddling scheme. Coughlin admitted to accepting free meals and tickets to sporting events from Abramoff’s lobbying partner Kevin Ring in return for providing assistance to Abramoff’s lobbying team. He pleaded guilty to a conflict of interest charge.

Mother accused of DUI with her kid in the car

A 26-year-old mother was arrested on driving under the influence of drugs and child endangerment charges after she slammed into another car in Alexandria, police said.

Kerbi Ware was allegedly driving under the influence of narcotics with her 5-year-old daughter in the car when she got in the accident with a Mercury Marquis on North Ripley Street, police said. She is being held on a $6,500 bond.

Bethesda doctor’s office searched

Federal agents searched the Bethesda office of Dr. Eric Greenberg for evidence of illegal drug distribution, court records said. Greenberg was acquitted of cocaine possession charges Friday in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Court records say Drug Enforcement Administration agents were searching for records of more than 150 “cash only” patients.
