A portion of King Street near Old Town Alexandria will stay closed through the night after a water main break Thursday morning.
Lanes are shut down in both directions between Janneys Lane and Russell Road .
“The main break is more extensive than we thought,” said David Barney, a spokesman for Virginia American Water, adding it occurred near a gas main.
Traffic will be diverted onto Janneys Lane to Quaker Lane.
Barney said the goal is to complete repairs by morning rush hour.
