Twitter pokes fun at HBO Max for email mistake

Sometimes, interns make mistakes.

HBO Max accidentally sent users an “Integration Test Email #1” at 8:46 p.m. Thursday, promptly blaming it on an intern and then being given the viral meme treatment on Twitter.

“This template is used by integration tests only,” the body of the email said. That text is the entirety of the email.

An intern at the company was responsible for the mistake, as many users suspected.

“We mistakenly sent out an empty test email to a portion of our HBO Max mailing list this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience, and as the jokes pile in, yes, it was the intern. No, really. And we’re helping them through it,” the company tweeted, followed by a heart emoji, about an hour after the email.

Twitter users took the opportunity to have some fun at the expense of the streaming network. Some expressed their excitement at the new show HBO Max announced.

“I hope everyone watches my new show called Integration Test Email #1 coming to HBO Max soon! We’re trying something new with the marketing,” actress Cristela Alonzo tweeted.

Others encouraged the anonymous intern by sharing horror stories from their past internships and first jobs.

“Hey HBO Max person, one time I checked in code that stopped collecting funds from our customers for a month. Don’t beat yourself up. We love you,” said Michael Pryor, a designer for project managing service Trello.

Despite the stressful night the intern likely experienced, this mistake might be to his or her credit, others said.
