The chairwoman of a Virginia school board, known for berating parents who protest mask mandates, fled a meeting last week after she was confronted with photos of herself maskless and surrounded by a “crowd of people.”
Chairwoman Susan Kass stormed out of the Montgomery County School Board meeting after Alecia Vaught, a parent, spoke on the state’s mask policies.
Vaught called out the school board members as hypocrites for not following Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s new order and set her sights on Kass, who had reportedly screamed at parents that removed their masks in protest during a prior meeting.

The mother displayed photos of a maskless Kass that purportedly came from the chairwoman’s Facebook page, according to a report.

Kass did not take kindly to the attack, the report noted.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Vaught, you are done. If you are going to sit there and disparage a member of our school board, then you can sit down,” Kass said.
She then called for the authorities to remove the parent, the report noted.
A different board member defended Vaught.
“She should be able to say her piece. I’ve had to listen to people come and criticize me,” according to the board member.

“That’s my family,” Kass said.
“What do you think about our family? Our family is being suffocated to death by your policies,” Vaught retorted.
That was enough for Kass, according to the report.
“I’m done. She leaves or I leave,” the chairwoman said before storming out seconds later.

“I wish I had reacted differently. But when someone is scrolling through your personal FB trying to prove something that isn’t true, and now they are threatening to show photos of your family, you become protective,” Kass said in a statement regarding the incident.

“She is trying to paint me as a hypocrite because I spent time with family and friends who are vaccinated and boosted at people’s homes. I have not asked anyone to do something that I haven’t done myself. I have elderly parents that I also need to protect.”
