The attorney now representing Mike Flynn was a supporter of independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin, a favorite of the “Never Trump” movement.
On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Flynn, President Trump’s former national security adviser, is willing testify to congressional investigators in return for immunity.
Flynn’s attorney, Robert Kelner, put out a statement shortly afterward. While it didn’t explicitly mention anything about seeking immunity, it did say said Flynn “certainly has a story to tell, and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit.”
Kelner is an attorney with Covington & Burling LLP.
According to LawNewz, Federal Election Commission records show Kelner is a Republican supporter. But old tweets from Kelner’s account, which isn’t verified but has been retweeted by Covington & Burlington’s official account, show he was not voting for President Trump on Election Day.
In a mid-October tweet, Kelner says, “[i]n the absence of a sound GOP option for President,” that he would be writing in McMullin’s name.
In the absence of a sound GOP option for President, I’ll be voting for @Evan_McMullin and @mindyfinn as write-ins on the Maryland ballot.

There’s also a tweet from February in which Kelner defends Sen. John McCain as an “American hero,” which seems to be a response to Trump tweets slamming McCain for questioning the success of a raid in Yemen in which a Navy SEAL was killed.
Senator McCain is an American hero. We thank him for his sacrifices and honorable service. https://t.co/StGBmhAy2T
