Police investigate second weekend shooting in Northeast

Joseph Denard Southall, 30, was found dead early Sunday on the 600 block of Edgewood Street NE after being shot in the face — the second shooting death in the area within 24 hours.

Police also identified 22-year-old James Ray Sherrod as the victim of a shooting on Saturday on the 700 block of Kenilworth Terrace. Sherrod died at a local hospital from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police have not identified a suspect in either case.

Anyone with information about either shooting can call D.C. police at 202-727-9099 or text 50411. Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest or conviction.

U.Md. men’s basketball player arrested for disorderly conduct

University of Maryland men’s basketball player Pe’Shon Howard was arrested and cited for disorderly conduct for his role in a fight outside a College Park restaurant early Sunday.

Police responded to a fight in front of Shanghai Cafe on Baltimore Avenue, where they found Howard shouting at an individual believed to have started the scuffle. Police said Howard was not actually involved in the fight.

Howard was repeatedly asked to stop yelling but did not do so, according to police.

The incident marks the second arrest for the men’s basketball program this year. Assistant coach Dalonte Hill was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in January.

P.G. man charged with killing pregnant woman had past record

A man charged in the stabbing death of a pregnant Prince George’s County woman was already under home detention following an assault conviction last year, records show.

Nathan Cedric Rogers, 22, of District Heights, was charged with first-degree murder after police found the body of 23-year-old Jasmine Nichelle Moss in the trunk of a vehicle last week. The two were in a relationship, according to police.

Moss was already dead, with stab wounds to her upper body, when police found her. The car in which she was found belonged to her mother, police said.

Rogers was convicted of first-degree assault in 2011.
