Gibbs forced to respond to Jon Stewart’s cracks

Jon Stewart can pat himself on the back for an effective presidential takedown.

On the “Daily Show,” Stewart called out President Obama for not looking fully engaged in the oil spill. Stewart showed the president congratulating the Duke Blue Devils and the Connecticut Huskies, the president celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month, the president celebrating Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, and the president doing an interview, about basketball.

“How much heritage and basketball bull—- do you have to do in a month?” Stewart asked in Tuesday’s show. NBC’s Chuck Todd asked press secretary Robert Gibbs about it Thursday and Gibbs pleaded ignorance.

“I haven’t watched TV in two weeks that isn’t news, so I love Jon Stewart, he’s a funny guy, but I haven’t seen him recently,” Gibbs said.

Then Gibbs gave those pesky reporters a slight smackdown. “I appreciate that sometimes you guys have one story, you do one story a day, but we don’t necessarily deal with just one subject a day.” Ouch.
