“There is a marked contrast between the warnings of war that have been coming out of North Korea, the tensions in the region over the past days and weeks, and what you see on the streets in the capital of Pyongyang. I just got back here after about ten days away. On the same plane were a group of foreign tourists, they’re still coming in. Here, in the center of the city, children rollerblading on Kim il-Sung Square. Elsewhere, people going on about their daily lives, in the same way as usual. It’s difficult to see how the situation can improve, but for the time being, life does carry on as usual in Pyongyang.”
