Carly Fiorina made what is likely the first political Twitter gaffe of the year Friday when she expressed her support of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes over the Stanford University Cardinals in the upcoming Rose Bowl football game.
The only problem: Fiorina is a graduate of Stanford.

“Love my alma mater, but rooting for a Hawkeyes win today,” she wrote in a tweet that was swiftly and harshly condemned as an insincere effort to score points with Iowa voters.

Some pundits mocked the GOP contender for her thinly-veiled pander, while others wondered why she bothered to send the tweet at all.
