Fire and Ice
Kazakhstani model Madina Ashimova got more than she bargained for Sunday night at the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington’s annual RAMMY awards, as her dress caught fire just before the doors opened to the public.

sponsored the event. According to Ashimova, just a few minutes before the doors opened, one of the candles on the cocktail tables ignited her gown, and she looked down to see part of her skirt and lace bodice on fire.
“Luckily, someone thought to throw water on the fire — thank goodness it wasn’t vodka!” she said.
After that, it was time for some emergency repair work.
“We had the housekeeping staff bring us some scissors and just lopped off the blackened part of the dress, then it was off to the reception,” said the model who hails from Kazakhstan and currently resides in New York (she has made appearances in Miami, Chicago and New York for Snow Queen; this was her first Washington appearance).
