THE DAILY OUTRAGE: For government, temporary means permanent

Who: John Berry, director of the Office of Personnel Management

What: Claimed that the growth of government in the last year is “small and temporary.” The federal government has increased by more than 25,000 employees since December 2008. Fourteen of the top federal agencies responsible for spending under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act acknowledged hiring about 3,000 workers with stimulus money.

Why it’s an outrage: While unemployment has increased by nearly 4 million in that time, billions of dollars have been sucked away from taxpayers and into the pockets of government bureaucrats. Berry’s office has even granted waivers of some employment rules to “streamline” the hiring process.

Where to vent: Call the office of the director, 202-606-1000.
