Jeff Bezos to divorce wife after 25 years

Jeff Bezos, 54, and his wife, MacKenzie, 48, are getting divorced after 25 years of marriage.

The billionaire owner of Amazon revealed the split Wednesday on Twitter.

“As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,” Bezos and his wife said in a joint statement.

The pair say they will remain a family and continue to pursue “ventures and adventures” together.

The Amazon CEO and Washington Post owner is currently the wealthiest man in the world, worth approximately $137 billion, which means this could be the costliest divorce settlement in history. It is unclear if they had a prenuptial agreement.

The couple met and got married while working at a hedge fund in New York in the early 1990s. After getting married they moved to Seattle, where Bezos eventually founded Amazon.

They have four children.

Bezos acquired the Washington Post in 2013 when he purchased it for $250 million.

President Trump and Bezos have often butted heads, especially as Trump increases his attacks on the “fake news,” which includes the Washington Post.
