Whiny people ruined a volunteer fire department’s amazing pig roast fundraiser

Every now and then you come across a story that’s plain demoralizing. This is one of those stories.

A volunteer fire department in Chester County, Pa., has canceled its annual pig roast over complaints that they planned to, uh, roast a pig.

“The Malvern Fire Company was set to host its sixth annual pig roast Aug. 4 but has canceled the event after numerous calls, complaints, and threats of protests over the animal being cooked and served,” philly.com’s Vinny Vella reports, citing “company officials.”

It’s unclear who, exactly, made the complaints. Fire Chief Chris Gastwirth said they’re currently mulling alternatives.

“The pig roast debuted at the firehouse in 2013 as a fund-raising opportunity for the volunteer company, whose ranks include about 70 members, according to its website,” philly.com reported.

It added, “Organizers of last year’s fund-raiser charged $15 for ‘a roast pig dinner with sides, dessert, and drinks,’ according to a flyer for the event. An additional $10 netted attendees ‘all-you-can-drink beer.’”

To be clear, the Chester County VFD pig roast is a fundraiser. It’s to raise money so they can, you know, keep the county from burning to the ground. Now there’s no fundraiser because whiny adult-children took issue with the proposed menu. Considering the roast went off without a hitch in previous years, I’d guess the complaints didn’t even come from county residents. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was mostly the work of nosy, outside do-gooders laboring under the delusion they’re somehow saving the world by protesting a VFD fundraiser.

What is wrong with everyone?

If you don’t like something, you don’t have to destroy it. You can choose to ignore it! Why demand that the world change to accommodate your every preference? If the complaints came from county residents, why not just bring their own food? It’s a fundraiser, for crying out loud, not a fine dining experience.

Look, I get this is a small story. But it’s so mindbogglingly stupid, I couldn’t pass it up. Everyone is terrible and everything awful.
