About 30,000 gallons of sewage overflowed from a ruptured pipe Monday near Eastern Avenue and the Beltway in Baltimore County?s Back River area, officials said.
The overflow was contained by 8 p.m. Monday, but officials said they anticipate additional discharges during repair of the 12-inch main near the East Point Pumping Station.
The county has issued a “water contact alert” in areas that may have been contaminated and alerted the state?s environmental department.
Crews are posting signs at points of access along Back River. Condition updates will be posted on the county?s Environmental Protection Web site.
