A lawyer for Beltway sniper John Allen Muhammad said his client should not have been allowed to represent himself at his 2003 capital murder trial.
Muhammad’s conviction and death sentence should be tossed because his attorneys failed to tell a judge about Muhammad’s mental health issues and violated his right to effective counsel, attorney Jonathan Sheldon told the federal appeals court in Richmond on Tuesday.
