White House rejects Carson, says Chinese army not in Syria

National Security Advisor Susan Rice on Thursday disputed GOP presidential hopeful Dr. Ben Carson’s assertion that China is engaging militarily in Syria.

“I really can’t speak to what he was referring to but unless you’re talking about having a diplomatic presence, I’m not sure what he was referencing,” Rice said Thursday when asked about his claim. “I have not seen evidence of Chinese military involvement in Syria.”

“You know, the Chinese are there, as well as the Russians, and you have all kinds of factions there,” Carson said during the Republican presidential debate Tuesday night.

Carson may have been referring to unsubstantiated claims that China has a military presence in Syria, claims that Beijing has denied.

But Carson campaign aide Armstrong Williams has repeated Carson’s claims, telling multiple outlets that Carson was relaying information he received from military operatives in the region.
