Who: Marilyn Tavenner, Principal Deputy Administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and President Obama’s nominee to lead CMS What: The Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General said Medicare paid $116 million, over a six month period in 2007, for antipsychotic drugs that were prescribed for medically unacceptable reasons.
Why It’s an Outrage: The IG made recommendations to CMS about ways to avoid such abuses in the future, but CMS “did not concur” with them.
