Liberal Media Scream: MSNBC’s Mika sees a ‘yes’ in Trump’s shrug on Russia

This week’s Liberal Media Scream features the new media frenzy over suggestions that President Trump is on Russia’s payroll.

Leading the campaign was Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski today.

Picking up on an AP headline, “Trump dodges question on whether he has worked for Russia,” Brzezinski opened Monday’s show by highlighting how, when Trump was asked, “have you ever worked for Russia?” that “nowhere in his 354-word answer did he say the word no.”

In fact, in response to the question from FNC’s Jeanine Pirro, Trump pretty clearly rejected the allegation: “I think it’s the most insulting thing I’ve ever been asked. I think it’s the most insulting article I’ve ever had written. And if you read the article you’d see that they found absolutely nothing.”

Pirro’s question was prompted by a New York Times story headlined: “F.B.I. Opened Inquiry Into Whether Trump Was Secretly Working on Behalf of Russia.”

Brzezinski, on the January 14 Morning Joe:

“On Saturday the president was asked, point blank, ‘have you ever worked for Russia?’ Nowhere in his 354-word answer did he say the word no. Welcome to Morning Joe on this Monday, January 14th…”

Media Research Center Vice President of Research Brent Baker explains our weekly pick: “It’s a new silly season in the media, so well exemplified by Brzezinski. Journalists so want it to be true that Trump really is a Russian agent that they lose all critical thinking ability and embarrass themselves, as Brzezinski has here. Just because Trump did not explicitly say ‘no,’ does not mean he didn’t deny the charge for which there is no evidence.”

Rating: Three out of five screams.
