Riverdale Park residents forced out of condemned building

Two hundred Riverdale Park residents were forced out of their homes Wednesday night after Prince George’s County officials condemned an apartment building damaged by recent storms.

Fire and emergency medical services personnel were called Wednesday night to a 65-unit apartment building at 5313 Riverdale Road with reports of a water leak.

Officials with the county’s Department of Environmental Services condemned the building until an official assessment of the structure can be made.

A temporary shelter was opened for residents at Bladensburg High School, and the Department of Social Services is coordinating efforts with the American Red Cross to assist displaced families. Residents needing assistance or shelter can call the county’s Emergency Operations Center at 301-583-1950.
