Philippe Reines, a former Hillary Clinton aide who was recently named as an alleged harasser of a female New York Times reporter who followed Clinton on the campaign trail, shot back with a warning that he has “tapes.”
In New York Times reporter Amy Chozick’s forthcoming memoir, “Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling,” she opens up about being harassed by Clinton’s male aides, who she calls “the guys.”
In one anecdote, Chozick recalls one aide, who she refers to as “original guy,” responding to a tiff between the two with a line from “Thank You for Smoking.”
“‘I didn’t know I had to say it was off the record when I was inside you,'” Original Guy said, according to Chozick’s memoir.
Chozick doesn’t name him in the book but references a New York Times story later on, which the Washington Post’s book review said reveals that “original guy” is “Philippe Reines.”
Reines countered the allegations, telling Jezebel he informed the outlet that he had “tapes.”
“Amy deserves credit for confessing. Because anyone who’s seen ‘Thank You for Smoking’ knows the problem isn’t Aaron Eckhart’s language or behavior, it’s Katie Holmes’s ethics and tactics. I said it then, I’d say it again today,” Reines said in a statement to Jezebel.
“Oh, one more thing: she and Caroline [sic] Ryan should know this about my own book I’m currently writing: there are tapes. And unlike some, I don’t bluff,” he added.
When Jezebel asked for clarification, Reines said the tapes “provide a unique window into how The New York Times approaches their Hillary Clinton coverage.”
