Ex-sports book chief makes 1st Vegas appearance

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former sports book chief at a southern Nevada casino made his first court appearance in a Las Vegas court since his arrest last week in a New York City police investigation of illegal bookmaking and money laundering.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/SoMC5W ) that a judge on Monday scheduled 32-year-old Michael Colbert’s next court appearance Nov. 8. Colbert remains free on $50,000 bail.

Colbert didn’t speak in court. His lawyer, Michael Cristalli, declined comment on the charges.

A Cantor Gaming spokesman says Colbert was dismissed as manager of the legal sports book at the M Resort Spa Casino in Henderson.

Officials say Colbert and seven other people not involved with Cantor were arrested Wednesday in Las Vegas-area on charges including felony enterprise corruption, money laundering counts and conspiracy.
