South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg gave Rep. Eric Swalwell a death stare after he called out his handling of the recent police shooting that left an African American man dead.
Buttigieg was stating how he was taking responsibility for not getting to the point of full police accountability.
“If the camera wasn’t on and that was the policy, then you should fire the chief,” Swalwell interjected.
“So under Indiana law, this will be investigated and there will be accountability for the officer involved,” Buttigieg said.
“But you’re the mayor, you should fire the chief. If that’s the policy and someone died,” Swalwell said.
Buttigieg just glared at the California congressman instead of continuing to engage with him.
Buttigieg left the campaign trail in the week leading up to the debate in order to deal with the fallout after a white police officer shot 54-year-old Eric Logan while responding to a call about a man breaking into cars.
