No gunseller in D.C., means no guns for D.C. residents

The District’s lone licensed gun salesman has lost his lease and shuttered his doors, leaving city residents with nowhere to legally buy guns, WTOP is reporting.

The ban on gun sales in the District was lifted three years ago. Federal law, however, prohibits guns bought in one state to be taken into another jurisdiction without a licensed dealer playing the role of middleman. The city has had only one licensed dealer, Charles Sykes, and he’s temporarily closed his shop, Sykes tells WTOP.

Sykes reportedly said he’s looking for a new space and plans to reopen as soon as possible. In the meantime, though, District residents won’t be able to legally purchase guns.
