Murder-suicide in Prince WilliamA man shot and killed his wife, then killed himself, Saturday morning in Montclair, Prince William County police said.

Police said Robert W. Bates, 42, killed his wife, Jennifer A. Bates, 38, on the 15700 block of Widewater Drive. The couple was from Nokesville and police don’t know why they were on that street. The incident occurred in the middle of the road.

Robert Bates had been arrested for domestic assault and battery after a disturbance at their home in June, Prince William County police said. Both were served with an emergency protective order, which prohibited contact between the two. That order had expired prior to Saturday’s shooting.

Feds: Man pretended to be late dad to get benefits

An Arlington man is expected to plead guilty this week to netting nearly $336,000 in retirement benefits from the federal government by pretending to be his deceased father.

Court documents say Ralph Sincavage impersonated his father on the telephone and in writing from April 1992 until November 2010 to fraudulently collect his retirement benefits.

Sincavage’s father, Joseph Sincavage, had worked as a government truck driver. He died in 1992.

Sincavage has been charged with theft of government money. A plea hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Man found dead in car

Prince George’s County police are investigating the death of a man found dead in a vehicle early Saturday. He appeared to have been shot.

Police responded to a report of shots fired on the 3400 block of Dodge Park Road in Hyattsville at about 4 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the man has not been identified and no arrests have been made.
