Arlington still picking up brush from storm

Arlington County workers are still clearing away debris left by the July 3 thunderstorm that knocked out power for 7,000 residents.

County Manager Barbara Donnellan told the County Board on Wednesday night that the storm blew 60- to 80-mph winds, broke 17 utility poles, downed at least 73 trees and blocked several main roads. The county received 405 emergency calls on July 3.

Donnellan also said the county had already removed 265 tons of brush, equal to 100 truck loads, but that there was still more to do. The county received 355 new requests for brush removal on Monday alone.
