Forget 9 to 5: Dolly Parton reveals she starts her day at 3 am

For those looking to fill their cup of ambition, country singer Dolly Parton revealed her secret to success lies outside the usual 9 to 5. In fact, she says her day starts around 3 a.m.

Citing familial habits, Parton said she doesn’t need much sleep, and regardless of what time she goes to bed, she naturally wakes up at 3 a.m. Although it seems to be tiring, the singer-songwriter said those early hours are usually when she does her “best work.”

“I don’t need a whole lot of sleep,” Parton told Insider. “I go to bed pretty early, but even if I’ve been up late — it’s just kind of like a little clock inside of me that says, ‘It’s 3 o’clock!'”

Her early morning routine doesn’t take a rest on the weekends. She still gets up before dawn to make breakfast for herself and her husband. Depending on the day, the singer said she usually likes to whip up a spread of fluffy scrambled eggs, French toast, bacon, or biscuits and gravy.

Parton mentioned her early morning routine was partially inspired by her father, who also had a habit of waking up early.

“I’m like my daddy,” she said. “He was always up early, even if he had to go to bed late.”

The country singer has made headlines over the last two years for helping to fund research into the COVID-19 vaccine and, more recently, for removing herself from consideration for the 2022 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

“Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned the right,” she wrote in a statement at the time. “I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”
