The 21st annual Al Cesky Scholarship Award Banquet was held Wednesday in Edgewood, and 22 student-athletes from Harford County were honored. Bel Air High School senior Michelle Peck was the female recipient of the $5,000 award and C. Milton Wright senior Anthony Lester was the male recipient.
Peck was a three-varsity athlete, playing soccer, basketball and lacrosse for the Bobcats. She will attend Grove City College in Pennsylvania.
Lester was a captain on the football and wrestling teams and threw discus and shot put for the varsity track team. Lester will attend the United States Military Academy at West Point after graduation.
Every high school, public and private, chooses one female and one male student athlete as a Cesky Scholar every spring. The 20 athletes not receiving the major scholarship received a scholarship of $2,000. The Al Cesky Scholarship Fund, Inc. estimates that it has given approximately $480,000 in scholarships to more than 400 student-athletes.
