Radio host loses show for saying impeachment made him ‘wish for a nice school shooting’

A Denver radio host’s show was canceled after he said that President Trump’s impeachment is so boring that it makes people hope for another school shooting.

Chuck Bonniwell, who hosted a show with Julie Hayden on 710 KNUS, referenced the “never-ending impeachment of Donald Trump,” and then added, “You know, you wish for a nice school shooting to interrupt the monopoly,” on Tuesday. Hayden then quickly jumped in, saying, “No, don’t even say that! Don’t call us! Chuck didn’t say that.”

While Bonniwell aired his show on Wednesday, the network announced that it would be the last day of the show.

“Given the history of school violence that has plagued our community, 710 KNUS confirms that an inappropriate comment was made on the Chuck and Julie show by co-host Chuck Bonniwell. A programming decision was made to end the program immediately,” the network said in a statement provided to the Washington Examiner.

“Starting tomorrow, Dec. 19, the 710 KNUS, 1-4 p.m. weekday time slot will feature the Salem Network show, America First, hosted by Sebastian Gorka,” it continued.

Bonniwell issued a statement on Twitter saying that the comment was “inappropriate” and that it was “meant as a joke” but added that he’s “sorry it was not received that way.”

He has a history of controversial remarks, including claiming that Colorado Gov. Jared Polis won his race because he had the support of the “gay mafia” last year, according to the Colorado Times Recorder. Bonniwell also called state Sen. Faith Winter of Westminster “an overweight, unpleasant, vicious, amoral human being” during the same election cycle.
