Daily Outrage: You’re dead!

Who: The National Science Foundation

What: Gave $100,000 to the University of California at Irvine

Why it’s an outrage: The money will be used to fund a study on the differing play habits of World of Warcraft Internet gamers in the U.S. and China. The Chinese apparently play a “more challenging” version of WoW than their American counterparts that allows them to “kill” other players without prior warning. If tax dollars are used to study first-strike capabilities, spend them on the real thing.

Where to vent: Call the Arlington-based NSF at (703) 292-5111.

Dim Bulb

Who: Lindsay Lohan

What: Reprising her role in “Mean Girls,” the 22-year-old actress attacked the qualifications of vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin on her MySpace page, saying that just four years ago, the governor of Alaska “had aspirations to be a television anchor, which is probably all she is qualified to be.” Lohan, who admitted to drug abuse and bulimia in a 2006 Vanity Fair interview, also warned the former Alaskan beauty queen: “Don’t pose for anymore (sic) tabloid covers, you’re not a celebrity…”

Cure: Stick to rehab, and leave political commentary to the grown-ups.
