Body found in burned central Illinois building

FARMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — State and local authorities are investigating the discovery of a body in an old central Illinois school two weeks after the building burned.

Gatehouse Media reports (bit.ly/1k9jw9p ) that the body was found Thursday on the third floor of the Old School Center in Farmington after the building owner contacted local fire officials about a foul odor.

The Farmington Police Department said in a news release that officials sent to investigate found what appeared to be a human body after removing debris in a hallway.

The body has not yet been identified, and an autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

Police Chief Carl Powell says his department had no reports of anyone missing in the area.

He says the cause of the May 15 fire is still under investigation.
