Blackberries and Beirut Don’t Mix
You can take the staffer out of college, but you can’t take college out of the staffer.
For proof, look no further than Hamilton’s Bar and Grill on June 8 and 9, during the third Tim Daly Memorial Beer Pong Cup, which organizers call “The Mid-Atlantic Region’s Premier Beer Pong Tournament.”
Daly is currently a Georgetown Law student and former press secretary to Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore. The joke is that Daly once claimed he’s so good at beer pong, they’d name a tournament after him when he dies. Although he’s in perfect health, “Three years ago, when we first did this, he got calls in Blumenauer’s office thinking he was sick or dying,” says our source.
But in this age of YouTube and Lindsay Lohan DUIs, will any staffers really be willing to be seen in public screaming “Rack ’em!” or bragging about their “Babe Ruth shot”? (Look it up if you don’t know what we’re talking about.)
Yes. For instance, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s press secretary, staffers for Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, and Pete Stark, D-Calif., and numerous lobbyists and political pros are expected to attend.
Who will win this year? “Throwing Liberally”? “D Street Debacle”?
Stay tuned … although we all know that “winning” in beer pong is always a secondary consideration anyway./>
