Lindsey Graham might never be caught hugging Ted Cruz, but he’s hugged the cactus in choosing to back his fellow lawmaker’s presidential bid.
Graham, who joked about killing Cruz on the Senate floor just a couple of weeks ago, will host a fundraiser for the Texas senator next Monday, according to CNN. While the details may not be finalized yet, Graham confirmed his backing of Cruz’s candidacy.
“He’s the best alternative to Donald Trump,” Graham said in a statement, per Politico.
The fundraiser will take place in Washington, D.C., on the same day Cruz is scheduled to speak at a conference hosted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
Earlier this year, Graham likened the choice between Donald Trump and Cruz to “being shot or poisoned.” But Graham slowly has come around on the senator, saying on Super Tuesday that the GOP may find itself in the position of “rallying around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Donald Trump.”
Graham made it evident Thursday that such a position is no longer hypothetical.
